Yasnogorsk is a town located on the northern side of the Tula Oblast in Yasnogorsky District near the River Vashana. The town was founded since 1578-1579 as the Village of Laptevo. The town received its urban-type settlement and legal rights for the town in 1938 and 1958 respectively. The town was given its current name in 1965. The economy of the town is based upon the Yasnogorsk Machine-Building Factory which produces builds parts for wagons, locomotives, and pumps for the mining industries in Russia.
