Shakhunya is a town located on the south side of the Nizhny Novgord Oblast near the railway line of Nizhny Novgorod–Kirov in Russia. The town was first known as the establishment near the opening of Shakhunya railway station in 1927. The town was granted work settlement status and town status in 1938 and 1943 respectively. The total estimated population until 2018 is around 20,049.
