Sokol is a town located on the northwest side of the Russia in Vologda Oblast near both shores of River Sukhona. The town was first known at least since 1615 as a village of Sokolovo. There is a Sokol District Museum, one of the two museums in the town. The economy is based upon the two large paper mills Sokolsky Tsellyulozno-Bumazhny Kombinat and Sukhonsky Tsellyulozno-Bumazhny Kombinat. Town was granted status in 1932. The total population of the town according 2018 reports is 36,924.
