Syktyvkar is a town located on south side of the Komi Republic near the River Sysola in Russia. Until 1930 it was known as Ust-Sysolsk. The name of the city is derived from Syktyv meaning same river and Kar meaning city. The Syktyvkar was founded 16th century and granted city status in 1780. The Mayor of the town is Andrey Samodelkin. Most of the population of the town were Merchants and Peasants. The economy of the town is based upon the forestry products transported from Skytyvkar. There is an oldest museum founded in 1911 of the Republic of Komi.
There is a Theater of opera and Ballet built in 1958. The city is twinned with Cullera of Spain, Debrecen of Hungary and others.
