Yugorsk is a town placed on the western side of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug near the River Ess with the forest around it. The town was founded in 1962 as the establishment of Komsomolsky which was constructed for the industries of natural gas and timber. The current name of the town was given in July 1992. The name of the town comes from land's name Yugra or Yugoria meaning the place where citizens of Mansi and Khanty lives together.
